Every child whose class visits as part of the Generation Wild project is entitled to a FREE visit with their family. Below, you will find details to help you to plan your visit.
Ava was an ordinary osprey until she landed on a mysterious nest at the wetland centre. This turned her into part bird / part girl. She had no idea who she was or where she’d come from.
On the school visit, the children discovered Ava’s secrets through the animals on site. They used magical listening devices called ‘translatorphones’ to hear what the animals had to say.
They revealed that Ava’s family had to start their migration to West Africa without her. She would have to make the journey herself if she was to find them.
There, she would also find the Guardians of the Wild, a great council of animals who look after all living things on earth. They have promised that any child who shows they are willing to look after nature can themselves become a Guardian.
When you arrive, you will be given one of the magical translatorphones, along with a map showing the location of ten listening posts.
The experience starts at Ava’s giant nest. With more than enough room to house your whole family, this is a great place to take a photo to remember your day.
You can then try to find the listening posts and complete the nature activities. By holding the translatorphone up to the post, you will be able to hear from the animals who will all have something exciting to tell you.
There’s also lots more to see and do at our wetland centres.
On this website, you can track Ava as she continues on her journey and complete nature activities, earning badges and certificates as you go. Your child could even become a Guardian of the Wild.
There’s no special equipment or clothing required but it’s best to wear clothes that can get a bit muddy. You’ll be outside for most of the day, so please come dressed for the weather.
There’s no need to book in advance. You can simply turn up with your voucher on the day.
Voucher must only be used by the family of the child that attended the Generation Wild school visit.
