"Our Year 4 pupils recently embarked on an unforgettable nature experience at Martin Mere. From helping Ava find her way home to proudly completing their Guardian of the Wild tasks, the children embraced every moment—learning, exploring, and connecting with the natural world in meaningful ways.
One of the highlights of their visit was encountering the vibrant flamingos, especially the fluffy chicks nestled among the flock. The children were absolutely captivated, asking thoughtful questions and showing genuine curiosity, about the wildlife and habitats they saw.
Inspired by their adventure, they brought their enthusiasm back to school. At forest school, the children eagerly constructed their own bug hotel using natural materials they had gathered themselves. They compared it to the impressive bug hotel at Martin Mere, sparking ideas for imaginative enhancements and creative improvements.
Later, their excitement spilled into playful exploration. With flapping wings, echoing bird calls, and boundless energy, they transformed the forest school area into a lively woodland scene. This imaginative role-play was a joyful blend of creativity and learning, deepening their understanding of wildlife behaviours and natural sounds.
It was a day—and a follow-up—filled with wonder, curiosity, and a true celebration of the wild. We’re so proud of our young guardians and thrilled to continue nurturing their love for nature."
