"We are a special needs primary school which is working hard towards embedding Learning Outside the Classroom and learning about and in nature into our everyday curriculum.

Two classes have been lucky enough to take part in the Generation Wild Project over the last couple of years. Each child worked on their 10 badges within school hours with 208 badges being awarded and 18 children became Guardians of the Wild receiving their badges and certificates.

In the past two years we have taken part in The Big Schools Birdwatch, we have taken part in nature activity days and we have worked through our Grow, Grow, Grow topic. Children have weekly sessions in our herons forest area and classes can also use our nature hub area where we have a raised pond, fruit trees and wildflowers.

The pond is raised so that children in wheelchairs can still access the pond for dipping etc and we have a ramp that the frogs can and do use to access the pond. We have had a hedgehog visitor to school, made bird and bug houses and shared bones.

Where possible children take part in a plan, do, review process for trips as this also helps with life skills. They think of the risks associated, they take part in the activity and then they review how it went.

Generation wild was a great kick start to encourage all of our children to engage in nature activities in order to learn more about and care about the natural world around us."
