Guardians of the Wild

97

"Generation Wild has been a fantastic resource for our school. Our trip to Slimbridge Wetlands Centre provided a fantastic hook for our children and immediately inspired our pupils to engage with nature through Ava's challenges.

In the words of some of our children:

"It was the best day ever - I loved being a flamingo and seeing the birds in the hide."

"Welly boot land was so fun, I splashed and jumped in the water like the birds."

"I felt like a real explorer. It was so fun to look at nature outside of school."

Since our trip, we have been promoting the Generation Wild project via Class Dojo and it has been great to receive photos and videos from parents of the children engaging in nature activities at home, which we have then shared and discussed in the classroom.

In an effort to ensure that all pupils continued their journey to achieving Guardians of the Wild, we also incorporated some of the challenges into our outdoor learning days. These activities gave children a sense of purpose and it was great to see the joy on their faces as they discovered nature in new ways, achieved their virtual badges and eventually became Guardians of the Wild themselves!

It has been wonderful to hear the children discussing nature more and seeing how they have brought some of their learning into breaktimes and lunchtimes, encouraging others in our school community to also get involved in exploring the nature around them."
